Karl Blossfeldt

Karl Blossfeldt was a German photographer who is known for his inspiring and unique collection of photographic plant portraits. (June 13, 1865 - December 9, 1932 - age 67)

For his plant portraits he used a homemade camera that could magnify the subject up to thirty times than its actual size. His pictures were rather simple but had a great effect and showed extraordinary detail of the plant in the portrait. In addition to, all of his plant portraits were in black and white with mostly a white background due to the object mainly being a dark shade, this makes it stand out a lot more. Lastly, when taking his portraits he laid the object flat on the floor against a white background as it was easier to position than holding it up.

Here with a photo he had taken you can see that the photo has a metallic feel, almost like what you get on the top of metal fence railings. In addition to, the white background makes the object stand out more and gives the object more detail.
