Cecil Beaton

Cecil Beaton was a famous photographer, designer, writer and socialite. He was born in Hampstead, London, England on the 14th January 1904 and died on the 18th January 1980 (aged 76). Beaton designed book jackets and costumes for charity matinees until vogue took him on in 1927. Beaton set up his own studio as well. His first camera was a kodak 3A folding camera.

Beaton's photography was known for focusing on staging a compelling model or scene and waiting for the perfect shutter-release moment. Also, Beaton is best known for his fashion photography and society portraits. In addition to, Beaton became one of Britain's leading war photographers and was best known for his photographs of the damage done on London during the German Blitz. Beaton also took photographs of the royal family, especially Queen Elizabeth.                                                              

One of Beaton's most famous pictures was of three year old Eileen Dunne recovering in hospital whilst holding her teddy bear due to the German Blitz. This photo helped get the Americans involved in the war as this photo was published in the newspaper and the people of USA put pressure on the government, demanding them to help Britain.

Here is a famous picture that Cecil Beaton had taken during WW2 of a girl named Eileen Dunne  who was injured during the German Blitz. This picture was published in many American newspapers and this picture made a big influence on the USA's decision to help the United Kingdom in the war as it makes you feel helpless and makes you want to do help.








Here is another famous picture that Cecil Beaton had taken which is called 'The Hon'. It is a picture of Daisy Fellows with her "Tutti-Frutti" necklace from Cartier SA.
